Look at trends rather than single months for meaningful insights.
Category Analysis
Focus on controllable categories:
- Food & Dining: Often has room for optimization
- Subscriptions: Review for unused services
- Shopping: Track against budget
Don't worry about fixed categories:
- Rent/EMI: Usually fixed
- Utilities: Relatively stable
- Insurance: Planned expense

Tips for Better Reports
Categorize Consistently
Reports are only as good as your data:
- Review uncategorized transactions regularly
- Use rules for automatic categorization
- Keep category names consistent
Use Meaningful Categories
Choose categories that help decision-making:
- Good: "Dining Out", "Groceries", "Subscriptions"
- Less useful: "Misc", "Other", "Random"
Regular Review Cadence
Establish a review habit:
- Weekly: Check uncategorized transactions
- Monthly: Review category breakdown
- Quarterly: Analyze trends and adjust budgets
Compare Periods
Use date ranges strategically:
- This month vs last month
- This quarter vs same quarter last year
- Holiday months vs regular months
Limitations
Data Completeness
Reports reflect only imported data:
- Upload all relevant statements
- Include all accounts for complete picture
- Check for missing date ranges
Category Accuracy
Reports depend on categorization:
- Uncategorized transactions won't appear in category reports
- Miscategorized transactions skew results
- Review and fix as needed
